MORE fish

Yesterday Lob spent almost 2 hours (Addie's nap) cleaning the fish tank/changing the water/cleaning out the gravel. A little neglect leads to a lot of work later. Part of the problem is that now, the cleaning we did for our 8 fish won't support a tank of 40 or so!That's right - you might remember this post from August: Baby Fish!
Well, a few days ago we discovered another brood of baby fish! This time we left them to their own devices pretty much, but they've had a pretty surprising survival rate. What are we going to do with all these fish? Should we separate the culprits who are creating them? Could it really be something in the water?

Here you can see the parents on the right, a few older siblings on the left, and one of the youngest fish on the lower right.

First Painted Toes

I thought Addie would be resistant to painted toenails or that she would want the color off as soon as it was painted on.

On the contrary, she talked about them all day and tore off her socks and shoes as soon as Aaron returned home to show him her toes.

Lunch in the City

Addie and Lob explored the District a little.

First was the Aquarium...

Not the biggest in the area, but for $3, it's the perfect size and price for a two-year-old. It allowed Addie to see some of her friends from NEMO

like Dory.

She spent as much time pushing her own stroller around as looking at the fish.

After the aquarium, we picked up some sandwiches and rode the metro 2 more stops to see Daddy at Dupont Circle. Addie got to chase the pigeons and squirrels - one of her favorite things to do.

Just off of the Circle is a new shop called Hello Cupcake. Addie picked the 'Prima Donna' cupcake.

The sugar kept Addie going for the metro ride home.

Horse, Daddy!

The carousel at Clemyjontri is really nice. Addie really wanted to ride it, then was a little uneasy once it started moving. She ended up loving it and had fun choosing her horse.

Clemyjontri - again - This Time With the Hams

The Hams visited with us for the weekend. On Sunday, we wanted to share Clemyjontri with Riley.

We had a nice little picnic lunch on the lawn of the park.

The girls played...

then rode the carousel together.

Riley loved the carousel, too!

Breakfast at the Lakehouse

We had the privilege of spending a week with some dear friends at Smith Mountain Lake near Roanoke, VA.

Crispy Rice (generic Rice Krispies) with blueberries is one of Addie's favorite breakfasts. Addie currently calls it 'peepee yice'.

Playing in the Sand With Elise

Elise and Addie had a lot of fun together. Elise is about 9 months older than Addie, and was a great example for her. The two loved to play in the sand together.

Post Swim Snack

Addie was more than willing to wear floaties or the life vest (which she called 'pieces' for some reason), both of which were Elise's. She would usually just wear the vest and one of us would hold her in the water. It got really deep really fast!

Baby Fish

Yesterday we were surprised to find a load of baby fish in our tank! We've only had fish since May. Not sure about the gestational period of little aquarium Mollys, but we were certainly surprised! There are a lot of new mouths to feed.

Teensy!

Mom (white) and Dad (black) with the brood up top. We're guessing they're the parents. I don't know which other fish would be big enough to have 30-40 little ones inside them without us noticing. You can see about half the brood on the wrong side of the 'safety strainer' we rigged up.

Feeding the Ducks

Addie had so much fun! Squeals and wiggles. Her friends John and 'Hashie' took her to feed the ducks about a month ago. She ate a lot of the bread at that outing. This time it all went to the birds.
